We spent just one night in Singapore and the next day we fled to a small Indonesian island. Even though the internet in our hotel was practically supersonic (only way to justify the high price) and I had work to do, we decided it was the best idea for our wallets. But, if we had stayed, these are some things we might have done:
– Singapore Botanic Gardens
A perfect way to escape the heat of the city by taking an early morning stroll . 1,000 species of orchids sit on lovely grounds of green tropical landscapes. The Gardens are open from 5am-midnight.
– Artwork at the Ritz-Carlton
As much as I don’t understand artwork, I still like looking at it. Warhol among others have pieces in this free viewing, and we hear you even get an i-pod tour.
– Plastic Surgery
So many articles have been written about the affordable cost of plastic surgery in Asia, with Bangkok being slightly cheaper. Mike decided that he was going to live out the rest of his days au naturel and I knew we were headed to Chiang Mai soon so I decided to save the self-mutilation for Thailand.
– Tucking into a meal at the White Rabbit
Ok, so we’re not exactly traveling on a strict budget and I do love a fancy meal from time to time, and well, I like the name of this place and rabbit is super tasty. Better than chicken actually. Who would not want to try a meal here?
– Jurong Bird Park
I’m an animal lover (well, except for cats since I’m allergic) but I love birds as much as cats do, so having an opportunity to photograph exotic birds would have been extremely fun. Break out the long lens!
– Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve
Free to visit during the weekdays this park overlooks the Straits of Johor in the northwest of the island. 140 migratory birds species can be observed. They open at 7:30am so if you want to avoid massive amounts of mosquitoes you might want to get there early.
Have you done any of these things in Singapore? If so, please share your experience with us!
Tip: A better idea for this trip might have been to book a reservation at an all inclusive resorts since that would have brought the costs down significantly. Package deals are an alternative to having to plan vacations that might incur higher costs if planned separately.
