This past November while in Amsterdam we had the opportunity to attend the High Times Cannabis Cup. Now we all know Amsterdam has become well known for its ‘coffee shops’ where you can legally smoke cannabis. I decided to attend the Cannabis Cup because I’d heard the author of the Cannabis Cup cookbook, Elise McDonough was going to be attending and giving a talk about cooking with cannabis. Now, for all of you who aren’t interested in hearing about cooking with marijuana, skip this article, but for the rest of you read on- and lets say I had no idea you could be so creative in cooking with weed.
We walked around the Cannabis Cup venue, checking out the newest pretty glass pieces and vaporizers that you could vote on this year.
Of course there were several food options to satisfy your munchies- from vegetarian gyros to a sweets mobile van.
I’m not sure what I was expecting at this event, but I guess my biggest surprise is that you can’t actually purchase any cannabis at the event. All cannabis is purchased at the coffee shops and they let you bring in a max of 3 grams. You can purchase all kinds of vaporizers, pipes, bongs and seeds at the event though. We loved the cannabus that would shuttle you from a central location in town to the convention. So we’d wait for the bus and it would bring us right to the door of the Cannabis cup at no charge. And the bus had disco lights. Pretty groovy.
I enjoyed meeting Elise and listening to her talk about cooking with cannabis. There is so much you can do with the plant and her cookbook takes the mystery out of cooking with marijuana, besides that- the recipes are absolutely gourmet. No greasy wierd shit, these recipes are pretty tasty. The book has gorgeous photography with over 50 recipes that cover everything from appetizers to cannabis cocktails.
We managed to get our hands on 1 cookbook personally autographed by Elise who sweetly wrote some words inside for the new owner of the cookbook.
We also lifted this video straight from the High Times website. In case you didn’t know, High Times is a New York based monthly magazine founded in 1974 and its the largest cannabis related magazine in the world. Watch it to learn a bit more about the cookbook.
We’re happy to announce our giveaway of the cookbook above and its easy as always to enter- just be sure to head on over and give our Facebook Fan Page a like and answer a simple question by leaving a comment below- are you interested in the appetizers, oils, main dishes, or sweets?
*Thanks so much to the fine folks at High Times for hooking us up with passes to attend the Cannabis Cup!
