Living in Honolulu means there is always some kind of event going on. The Honolulu Floating Lantern Ceremony for Memorial Day is one of them. I headed over to Ala Moana Park on the bus to take in the scene. I heard there might be up to 40,000 people and I was curious to see what this was all about.
Although I’m not local the ceremony was still very moving and as the sun dipped below the mountains I waded deeper and deeper into the water to get photos of the lit lanterns.
I also made a small video which I’d love for you to see:
This event is managed with love from thousands of volunteers who remove the lanterns from the bay, clean them, and make them ready for next year. They gave out 5,000 free Lanterns this year- maybe you’ll come out next year to release on of your own. Have you attended this ceremony? If so, how was your experience?
