November 27, 2011: Chiang Mai
This past Sunday we were privileged enough to witness 12,600 Monks in Chiang Mai. They had gathered to celebrate on the anniversary of the year Buddha reached enlightenment, which they say was 2,600 years ago. This ceremony sees monks from many different provinces around Chiang Mai arrive at dawn to collect alms. This year the event organizers asked the Thai people to donate canned and non-perishable good to distribute to the many affected by the devastating floods.
We were definitely glad we got up early to witness this. The sight of all these monks with the first rays of sunlight washing over them had such a calming effect on me. I felt like I absorbed some of the energy from everyone around me.
My heart was so happy.
